Angels with Us
I recently took my 4 year old granddaughter, Lucy, to see the movie Wonka. I wasn’t sure if she was old enough to enjoy it and I was ready to leave if it felt too mature for her, but that wasn’t the case. In fact, Lucy showed me just how thoughtful a 4-year-old little girl can be.
The scene that really stood out is one where Willie Wonka is realizing his dream, and his mother appears before him, glowing with pride over his success. The thing is, his mother had been gone for years, and Lucy realized that, so she was puzzled.
Lucy whispered “So is his mother alive now?” and I said “No, but she’s his angel, and has always been alive in his heart.”
Lucy then asked “LoLo, is Judy your angel?”
Judy is my mother, and she passed away in 2002. Today would have been her 84th birthday. She was my best friend, and when I lost her, my whole world changed. But Lucy is right, Judy is my angel, and she still talks to me every day, but now it’s from my heart.
Oh how I wish I could have Judy back. I would ask her so many questions that somehow I missed. I would hug her with all my might, and I would thank her for the many things she gave me in my life, far too numerous to mention.
If those you love most are still with you, be sure to tell them just how much they mean. You will never regret taking the time to do that.
But if you’ve lost some of those, you can still talk to them from your heart. I know they can hear us. Just like Willie Wonka’s mother, they’re with us wherever we go.
